Local Tesco Winner Picks Up Ford Ka - Recycling Scheme Raises £40,000 For Age Concern

Ford Ka Winner

Elaine Collick of Ashford, Kent has won a new Ford Ka in an inkjet cartridge recycling competition held between September 1st and December 31st last year. Her name was drawn from thousands of entries submitted by Tesco Clubcard customers who recycled their empty computer printer cartridges to raise funds for Age Concern, the Tesco Charity of the Year 2005.

Elaine, was presented with the new car last week and was overjoyed at hearing the news. "That's fantastic! I never win anything!", she said.

Helping customers to be more environmentally friendly is very important to Tesco and offering money to charity in return for the used inkjet cartridges has encouraged more and more people to recycle.

So far Age Concern has received almost £40,000 through this scheme, which could go towards helping older people learn to use email so that they can keep in touch with their family and friends. Overall, Tesco and Age Concern are working together to raise a total of £2million to combat poverty and isolation amongst older people.

Angela Wiseman, Head of Collections for Environmental Business Products, the company that runs this recycling programme, said: "We are delighted with the response to the competition and thrilled that Age Concern has benefited so well. We really enjoyed Elaine’s look of delight when she put the key in the lock of her new, bright red Ka car."
