
Located in the heart of Surrey, Guildford Borough covers an area of 104 square miles and has a population of approximately 130,000 residing in 53,011 properties. Guildford operates a weekly recycling collection of mixed paper, glass, tins and cans, a fortnightly chargeable garden waste collection scheme, a comprehensive recycling scheme for flats and 32 bring sites.
Guildford continues to make great strides in reducing the amount of rubbish created in the Borough and currently has a recycling and composting rate of 25%, easily achieving our Government set target of 21% by 2005/06. However, with their ambitious internal target of 60% recycling and composting by 2010, and they are continuously looking to improve their services, and the introduction of inkjet and laser printer cartridges recycling banks is one such improvement.
The new banks are available in the following locations:
30 school children from Boxgrove Primary School witnessed the unveiling of the banks at Spectrum Leisure Centre alongside Commander Cartridge and Council Officials. (Visit press releases for further details). It was also an opportunity for them to learn more about recycling and the impacts on environment.
