The Borough has a population of 161,333 with approximately 83,800 households covering an area size of 12.4km2. It provides 65,358 households with twice weekly kerbside collection service and it also operates the mixed recyclable material Orange Sack scheme.

The Borough has an on-going publicity, education and promotion campaign to raise awareness about recycling. It includes a quarterly newsletter as well as Recycling Wardens who patrol the Borough canvassing various recycling messages and news.

As a natural progression to their recycling initiatives. The Borough introduced Inkjet and Laser Recycling Banks to the following sites:

  • Sainsbury's Canal Way, W10
  • Sainsbury's Cromwell Road SW7
  • Teso Warwick Road W8
  • Hortensia Road SW10

The launch of this scheme attracted a classroom of pupils from St Cuthbert with St Matthias Primary School. The children were introduced to the new cartridge recycling superhero Commander Cartridge. They learned more about recycling particularly about Inkjets and Lasers and how it benefits the environment. This scheme will also help raise funds for Tommy's Baby Charity.

As part of the Recycle Western Riverside campaign employees of Kensington and Chelsea council are working to reduce and recycle as much of their office waste as possible. They have implemented an internal inkjet and laser recycling scheme raising funds for their Mayor's Charity.
