The London Borough of Wandsworth logo

Wandsworth is located on the south-west side of central London. It has a population of 262,759 with approximately 123,870 households covering an area size of 34.3km2. It provides 84,000 households with weekly kerbside collection service and offers 35 convenient bring sites for the community to recycle. Furthermore, it also has in place estate recycling service as well as home composting.

Last year, Wandsworth recycled 17.5% of household waste, beating the 16% set by central government for year 2003/2004. This was largely due to the success of Orange Sack Recycling. Target for 2005/2006 is to achieve recycling rate of 24%. The council has formulated various plans in order to achieve this. It includes the introduction of Inkjet and Laser Recycling scheme for the community. 7 Recycling banks have been placed strategically all across the Borough to encourage the community to recycle their used cartridges. They are:

  • Battersea Park, Queen's Circus Car Park, SW13
  • Sainsburys, Garratt Lane, SW18
  • Cannons, Burr Road, SW18
  • Sainsburys, Balham Station Road, SW12
  • Dr. Johnson Avenue, Tooting Bec Common, SW17
  • Putney Leisure Centre, Dryburgh Road, SW15
  • Asda, Roehampton Vale, SW15

25 children from 4th. Year of Shaftesbury Park School, Battersea, joined Commander Cartridge and Council officials to launch Wandsworth's printer cartridge recycling banks. They learned the importance of recycling printer cartridges and the simple measures they can take to help. Apart from benefits to the environment, this scheme will also help raise funds for Tommy's baby charity.
