Trouble shooting - error messages

General advice relating to the use of any brand inkjet cartridges.

Error message appearing on screen or flashing lights on the printer

After installing your new cartridge you may get an error message appearing on your PC (e.g. cartridge is incorrect) or a warning light(s) may flash on your printer. This means that the printer does not recognise your cartridge.

Possible causes

It is likely that something is interfering with the information that is being sent to the cartridge by the printer. A bit of dirt or dried ink may be covering one of the copper contact points on the back of the cartridge or the contacts inside the printer cartridge carriage - where the information transfer takes place.

Cleaning Instructions

We suggest the following preliminary checks be made before carrying out the cleaning and reinitialising procedure.

  • Check you have the correct cartridge for your printer
  • Check that the entire blue cellophane strip or protective plastic clip, which ever applies to your cartridge has been fully removed from the copper circuitry at the back of the cartridge and from the print head (see figures 6 & 7 below).
  • Observe the copper circuitry at the back of the cartridge to ensure that it is not obviously damaged.

If this above does not apply then carry out the cleaning and reinitialising procedure. Please see the cleaning procedure guide.
